In the oldest recorded history, onions were depicted on Egyption tombs as early as 3200 B.C. It is believed the vegetable was fed to workers for strength to build pyramids. Onions were worshiped by Ancient Egyptians as they symbolized eternal life because of its circle-within-a-circle structure. King Ramses IV was even entombed with onions in his eye sockets.
