What are organic spices?
Organic spices are made without any chemical fertilizers or chemical pesticides and are a viable alternative to herbs and spices grown with chemical pesticides. In short, organic spices are spices that are only grown with no synthetic herbicides, pesticides, or fertilizers. At ofi, we offer specialty bulk organic spices that are CCOF certified, USDA certified-organic and non-GMO Project Verified. We also believe in supporting environmentally responsible farming and production practices throughout our network of organic spice providers to ensure the health of our planet and our customers.

History of organic spices
Humans have been using spices for hundreds of years for both medicinal and culinary purposes, with records dating back to prehistoric times. From the Neolithic period to the Silk Road, cultures across Asia, Africa, and Europe have used organic spices to enhance their food’s taste, color, aroma, and more.
While herbs and spices were cultivated for many centuries without the use of pesticides, the use of insecticides, fungicides, and herbicides has become one of many modern farming practices. This has jumpstarted initiatives over the past few decades to produce organic spices and herbs. At ofi, we grow our organic bulk spices in the U.S. (where the regulations are some of the strictest in the world!) and strictly adhere to all organic certification requirements at the field and processing level.
