Where are onions cultivated?
While onion varieties are grown across the world, in the United States, the top three onion producing areas are California, Idaho-Eastern Oregon and Washington. ofi Spices onions are grown in three diversified growing regions in California the Imperial Valley, San Joaquin Valley and Tulelake.

History of onions
Cultivated for over 5,000 years, the exact origins of the onion are widely disputed due to the lack of physical trace evidence. When the pilgrims first arrived in North America, they brought onions with them on the Mayflower to be a garden crop, not knowing Native Americans had already been consuming onion varieties for hundreds of years, as it was grown in the wild.
Before the arrival of Europeans in America, wild onions were either consumed raw, cooked or used as a seasoning. Native Americans also used onions in syrups and as in ingredient in dye.
