Bulk powdered onion applications

So, when can I use powdered onion? Powdered onions have many applications, including:

  • Building fresh onion flavor in sauces, marinades and soups.
  • As a topical application for chips, crackers and vegetables
  • Adds great vibrant flavor to bland low-sodium or low-fat dishes
  • In seasoning blends for meat applications
  • To mask unsavory flavors in plant-based proteins

History of onions

Cultivated for over 5,000 years, the exact origins of the onion are widely disputed due to the lack of physical trace evidence. When the pilgrims first arrived in North America, they brought onions with them on the Mayflower to be a garden crop, not knowing Native Americans had already been consuming onion varieties for hundreds of years, as it was grown in the wild.

Before the arrival of Europeans in America, wild onions were either consumed raw, cooked or used as a seasoning. Native Americans also used onions in syrups and as in ingredient in dye.
